Southern Ijaw, Brass, and Ekeremor council areas, on Thursday, felt the pulse of the ongoing largest grassroot football competition in Nigeria, the Prosperity Cup, for the first time this season, as host communities came out in their numbers to watch the best of grassroot football.
The first game at the Amassoma centre witnessed one of the most intensed game in the competition so far, as both teams, Tantua FC and Adulama FC, defied the light showers and waterlogged pitch to express their intent to progress to the next round.
However, Tantua FC proved to be the better side, defeating their opponents two goals to nil, despite having a player sent off for clumsy challenge.
From the blast of the whistle both teams were relentless, putting the defence line on their toes, and showcasing the best of attacking football, but it was Tantua FC that found the back of the net. A well taken free kick from 25 yards hit the crossbar, and attacking midfielder, Steamer Owoye was quick to tap in from close range to give his team the lead.
At the resumption, Adulama FC maintained their resolute to get back into the game, creating several opportunities, with winger, Bugro Kelvin, close on two to three occasions in getting the equalizer, but Tantua FC goalkeeper, Alaowei Prosper remained vigilant with his tremendous saves, until Steamer Owoye scored his second goal with a well taken lwo-level free kick, to put the game to bed.
The second game at the Amassoma Centre saw Amassoma United winning two goals to one against one of the youngest sides paraded in the competition, Oguonama FC. Adobu Tony scored from close range after a cleared ball came his way to put his team ahead.
Oguonama FC had an opportunity to level via penalty, and skill forward, Temple Favour missed from the spot, before Adobu Tony completed his double from a set piece with fifteen minutes left.
Oguonama FC still maintained pressure and scored deep into added time.
In other results, George Super of Moses FC of Sangana scored a brace against Wagitia FC in the matchday five at the Akassa Centre to put his side Moses FC into the next round of the Bayelsa State Governor's Football Tournament christened the Prosperity Cup, while the second group saw William FC of Sangana walked over Amaogbo FC.
At the Ayamasa centre Crusaders FC crushed Peretoru I FC three nil, as Larama FC beat Isampou FC 4-2 on penalties after goalless draw at regulation time.
The only game at the Egbema-Angaabiri centre in Ekeremor Local Government Area, saw Azagbene Federated FC eased out Tuboama Community by a lone goal. In Twon Brass, Kurotei FC and Odioma City FC settled for a one all draw, but Odioma FC progressed 5-3 on penalties, while the second game between Canaan FC and Twon-Brass United, was shifted till today, Friday.
The matchday five fixtures for Azuzuama centre between Olou United FC, Lobia I and Sampou Sound FC, and Ayiscos FC, Ogboinbiri against Igbematoru FC, as well as the only game at the Agge centre between Osunmaibio Community FC and Agbayama FC Ogbotubu, will all take place today, Friday, including games for matchday six.
