****applauds Gov Diri For Investing in Sports***
The people of Imiringi in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have given thumbs up to the organisers of Nigeria's biggest grassroots football tournament Bayelsa Governor's Football Tournament for citing one of the Ogbia centres in Imiringi Community.
Imiringi, Kolo and Otuopoti are three centres settled by the organisers of Prosperity Cup in Ogbia LGA among the 24 centres across the State with 214 teams seeking for prosperity cup.
Some of the locals in separate interviews said they are pleased with the improved level of organization and competitiveness amongst the teams in this year’s edition.
A former player Mr. Akalisuo Lapahe, hailed the organizers for bringing Imiringi community, stating that they are happy with the respect accorded to the community and that they are ready to provide security for officials and participating teams as a way of saying thank you.
He commended the Governor Douye Diri and his deputy senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo for giving Bayelsa youths a veritable platform to showcase their potential to the world and foreign scouts and that they are capable of competing with their peers anywhere in the world.
A native Mr. Obhuo Philip asserted that the 5th edition of the showpiece is timely following one of the son's and product of the Prosperity Cup then Restoration cup Robert Mizo brilliant outing in the just concluded Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL season where he scored nine goals in the campaign.
He aligned himself with the shared prosperity of the Prosperity government and continuous peace enjoyed in the State, pointing out that since the commencement of the tournament more especially the Imiringi centre that no crime has been recorded in the community due to the love the people have for football.
Also, a retired referee, Wariso Imorobebi, applauded the organizers for engaging professional referees, saying the gesture brought more credibility to the tournament.
Imorobebi described the turn out of fans in Imringi community as the best you get in any centre in Bayelsa State, adding that he is hopeful that more Robert Mizo, Gabriel Biriduba and Okardi Jnr would be discovered at the end of the tournament.
He noted that since governor Diri assumed power as the state helmsman that the governor has given sports a new dimension.
In the meantime, action returns on Monday in the Nigeria's biggest grassroots football tournament at the Kolo Centre Apret FC Imiringi will battle Amangala FC of Oloibiri by 3p, while Azagbene Federated at the Egbema-Angaabiri Centre will face Egbema-Angaabiri FC.
The other fixture Ayamasa Centre will see high flying Crusader's Feeders square off with Larama FC
